Working Agreement

This agreement will be discussed and agreed when we begin our sessions.

We will work together in an environment of mutual respect, compassion, positive regard and attentiveness.

You and I accept our shared commitment and responsibility for our agreed task.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP men 054541) and my practice is informed by it’s Ethical Framework and Professional Guidelines. 


I only have a professional relationship with clients and contact will be informed by therapeutic value and the working contract. Should we meet outside of the session I will not enter into conversation about issues discussed within therapeutic work.

I am available on my mobile weekdays between 9:00 and 20:00 hrs, if occupied or outside of these hours a recorded message may be left.

Where telephone contact exceeds 15 minutes you will be charged per minute at your usual session rate.

Emails will usually be responded to within 24 hrs.

Clients are required to attend sessions free of the effects of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs.


Payment is required at commencement of a session or series of sessions. I am able to accept payment by cash, bank transfer, cheque or card.

Should cancellation of a session be made with less than 48 hours notice, the full fee will be due and payment required before the next therapy session. 

Concluding Therapy

We agree ending or work together will be done in a planned way with a minimum of two sessions notice.

Privacy Policy

All information you give to me I consider confidential.

These details will be used for running my business, including contacting you about appointments. I will not contact you for any other reason.

Basic records, such as your contact details will be kept for 3 years.

Therapy notes will be kept for 3 months after the end of therapy, or when I last hear from you.

You have the right to ask to see the information I hold about you, please ask me and you can view it in a session.

You can ask me to change any information that I hold about you that is incorrect.

You have the right to ask me to delete information that I hold about you, which I will do save for that which I have a legal obligation to keep – for example, for my business tax purposes.

If you wish to complain about how I handle your data, in the first instance please contact me, Nigel Dawson, as the Data Controller.

If your complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction you can contact the Information Commissioners Office or 0303 123 1113

Exceptions to this are where there is a legal obligation to disclose information such as in child protection issues, criminal or should I have concerns about yours, or others safety.

If a situation arises where maintaining confidentiality could compromise yours or others well-being, my course of action will be informed by the guidelines of the professional bodies of which I hold membership.

Electronic information such as emails, sms or telephone numbers, is held in accordance with the Data Protection Act. ICO reg no. ZA219439.

Whilst I have a professional presence on social media I never knowingly “follow” a client. I will not seek information about clients through search engines, social media or ‘listing sites’.
